Who may apply?

A legally capable citizen of Uzbekistan who has reached the age of 18 may voluntarily apply to withdraw from citizenship.

The applicant must appear in person when submitting the application.

Where should the application be submitted?

• A person residing in Uzbekistan applies to the internal affairs authority at the place of permanent residence or temporary stay.
• A person residing abroad applies to an Uzbek consular office or the consular section of a diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan.

Which documents are required?

The main documents include:

• an application and questionnaire in the prescribed form;
• a copy of the passport or ID card;
• a marriage or divorce certificate, if applicable;
• proof of payment of the state duty or consular fee.

As a rule, the documents are submitted in two copies.

If a child is included in the application

The following documents must also be submitted:

• the child’s birth certificate and, if available, passport or ID card;
• notarized consent of the parent who retains Uzbek citizenship;
• written consent of a child aged 14 to 18.

When are statements from close relatives required?

If the applicant’s spouse, parents or dependants are citizens of Uzbekistan and permanently reside in the country, their notarized statements confirming that they have no property claims against the applicant must be submitted.

Where appropriate, the following may be submitted instead:

• a death certificate;
• a final court decision declaring the person deceased, missing, legally incapable or having limited legal capacity, or depriving the person of parental rights;
• documents confirming that the applicant is the child’s sole parent.

How is the application processed?

The responsible officer checks the completeness and proper execution of the documents within three working days.

The application is registered in the E-Fuqaro information system. At the applicant’s request, confirmation that the application has been accepted and registered is issued within three working days.

Important: withdrawal from citizenship does not take effect on the date the application is submitted. It becomes effective only after the relevant decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan is adopted.
